Three weeks of harvest

For three weeks in September the house runs at a different speed. Pickers start at six to beat the heat, breakfast moves to five-thirty, and by nine the terrace is empty and the lagares are full.
Guests who come in harvest week are put to work if they show the faintest interest, and most of them do. It is the one time of year the long table has fourteen people at it.
