Read it before you drive
Fistral is a different beach at every state of tide.
| Tide | Beginners | Improvers | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | Poor | Fair | Long walk out, waves break hard on a shallow bank. |
| Low to mid | Good | Good | The best two hours of most days. |
| Mid | Good | Very good | Cleanest shape. Busiest, for the same reason. |
| Mid to high | Fair | Good | Waves get fat and close to the wall. |
| High | Poor | Poor | Backwash off the sea wall. We do not teach on it. |
What we look at
Swell
Two to four feet at twelve seconds is the sweet spot for a lesson. Anything over five and beginners are not going out.
Wind
Offshore or nothing. A cross-shore wind of more than fifteen knots ruins the shape whatever the swell is doing.
Tide
See the table. Low to mid is what we book around, which is why lesson times move every day.
Water
Nine degrees in March, eighteen in September. It decides the suit, not whether we go.

Someone is in the shop from eight. We would rather spend two minutes on the phone than have you drive down for nothing.
