Our work

Four programmes, all free at the point of use, all open to any 11 to 19 year old in the city. About a third come through a referral. The rest walk in.

Children mid-game on a public playing field
Young people paddling on calm water

River school

Tuesdays on the harbour, March to October. Paddlesport Start and Discover awards, and for a handful each year a coaching qualification that turns into a summer job.

Volunteers working raised beds in a community garden

Growing project

Two allotments in Bedminster and a polytunnel at the Boathouse. Saturday mornings, and everything that comes out of it goes into Thursday's meal.

Young people repairing bicycles together in a workshop

Bike workshop

Wednesday and Friday evenings. Strip a donated frame, rebuild it, ride it home. Two hundred and forty bikes went out last year.

Common questions

Who can come?

Anyone aged 11 to 19 living in or around Bristol. There is no cost and no catchment. You do not need a referral, though about a third of the young people we see arrive with one.

When does everything run?

Mentoring is arranged between the pair. River school is Tuesday evenings from March to October. Growing is Saturday morning. Bikes are Wednesday and Friday evening. Everything runs through the school holidays.

Is it safe?

Every adult is DBS checked and trained before they meet a young person. Two staff are always present. Our safeguarding policy is published and reviewed annually by the board.

Does it cost anything?

No. Everything is free, including kit, food and travel where that is what is stopping someone coming.
